Like I’m a book reviewere or something…

April 24, 2009

I truly enjoy reading. I often find myself in one of two situations I am totally engrossed in a book and can’t put it down, or reading has been pushed to the back burner and I am lucky if I get a few pages in while waiting in the pick up line. I recently finished up two books, one of each category.

mult-blessThe first; a page turning, life changing, mind altering story. I checked out Multipul Blessings by Jon and Kate Gosselin and Beth Carson from the local library. I am a true fan of the show on TLC (Jon and Kate Pluse 8) and was unaware of the book until they featured it on the show. I waited my turn in line and when I finally got the book, sat down and read it in one sitting. Some of the stories were familiar but most were news to me. I found the book more about the families spiritual journey than just mere anecdotes from raising 8 kids, although there were plenty of those along the way. I enjoyed the light hearted stores, the deeper feelings and scripture quotes through out the book. I walked away with a new appreciation for the little things in life. I found myself thanking my God for the great gifts he gives me everyday. The blessings I discovered in my own life as a result of one family sharing theirs were truly amazing. I find myself praying over my kids everyday now and thanking God for there mere existence. I have always been thank-full but now I remember the little things too, not just my kids and family, but the financial things, the world around me, the challenges and triumphs in my life.  If you have kids, had kids, want to have kids, know a kid, enjoy a kid, once were a kid, I know you will love this one. I even passed on the joy and gave this book as a gift to our Nana for her birthday. Now I am sure not everyone will get the same spiritual feeling I did after reading this book (Nana just thought it was fun/funny) but I have no doubt you will enjoy the read.

The second; The Choice by Nicholas Sparks I started reading during Shane’s wisdom teeth surgery and just finished today (I know that is only like 2 weeks but for me that’s a long time on one book). I also enjoyed this one. I am a fan of Nickolas Sparks and have enjoyed many of his books, and often find myself connecting with his characters along the way. I found this one a bit typical, I kind of guessed the end despite the air of mystery he tried to create along the way. I always enjoy a good love story and this one does not disappoint. The depth of love between these two people was evident and made me think of my own hubby and what we would do in the same situation. It will spark a conversation that is for sure (shhh he doesn’t know it yet).

Now I am  certainly no book reviewer (is that a word?) but these are two of my latest reads that I would recommend. But then again what do I know… certainly not if reviewer is a real word (the spell check said it was OK).

Furniture Market Widow

April 22, 2009

Well furniture market has started, so far so good. I have not missed my hubby too much but I am sure it is coming. It is amazing how much you take the little things for granted, the extra set of hands at bed time, the occasional morning drop off reprieve, the voice of reason when in a battle of wills with a three year old, the genius spirit week ideas… oooh the life of a widow…

Spirit week is in full swing at Dylan’s school, he has dressed in green for Earth day (today), worn pajamas and dressed like twins with a friend so far. Next he has to dress like a figure from the past…I’m thinking toilet paper mummy…but that doesn’t quite meet dress code. Spirit week will end in the money sucking “family fun day” on Saturday. Can you believe that not only do they hit you with a “fund raising” fun day (meaning games, junk food and other things all costing “just a small donation”), but they roll in the book fair, “art fair”, spring pictures and field trip (all in one week) as well.

Is it just me or does paying $29.95 for a piece of framed art your own child did sound a little ridiculous? I mean seriously I could buy a frame at Walmart for $3.00. The kicker, its a” good cause” right well the school gets a measly 20%! I would rather give my sons teacher $6.00 and tell her to have fun…Am I totally jaded and cynical or what?

I can’t believe how close we are to the end of the year…

A spoon full of sugar…

April 12, 2009
Shane is healed. He had himself all worked up, in a full stressed out tissy. He was in and out in less than an hour and never even took anything stronger than 400 mg Motrin. After all the build up and anticipation, he slept half a day, complained about the local numbness, and was fine with in the day. In a moment of pure honesty here…I am kind of mad. I have distinct, painful horrifying memories of having my wisdom teeth removed. I did take some blackmail photos…email me and I will share but the patient did request I not splatter them all over the net.
Another spoon-full of sugar was dished out today. With all our Easter goings ons. The kids got all hyped up after the first egg hunt at 7 am this morning. Then we had some real food breakfast and headed out to church. This afternoon we saw family and hunted more eggs and got more candy. There was only one minor casualty…Ella took a tumble on the gravel driveway and scraped her face, shoulder, both knees and hand. No major damage but she did shed a little blood and a bunch of tears.
Anyway I hope you all had a glorious Easter and enjoyed the season with your family and friends.
We love you all and keep you close to our hearts always!

The patient

April 6, 2009

The patient is home and sleeping soundly. Shane had three of his wisdom teeth surgically removed this morning. It went super quick and much easier than the doctor thought. He even got one out whole so we could see it (lol). He wanted Shane to see how curved the roots were. Shane had himself all wound up and freaked out (mostly thanks to people sharing their horror stories), but over all has been unimpressed with whole experience. The local hasn’t worn of yet though…

He’s fabulous, but I’m a little prejudice…

April 3, 2009

So my son just had a supper week. Despite going to bed late and getting up early almost every night and having his allergies flare up, he still managed to maintain a minimal whine level, be on green light all week and generally be in a good mood. On Tuesday he and his classmates put on a wonderful performance of the three little pigs, followed by a lovely song thanking all us parents for coming out to see it. I will include the video, pathetic as it is. Dark crowded school gyms just do not make for good video.

Then on Wed. he came home with a wonderful report card. He still has a long way to go but is catching up to where he should be. His teacher remains confident that he will be able to catch up, with a little extra help from us. He has always been doing well, I am just an over worried ancious questioner. Always, alway second guessing myself and wondering “what if.” I will always wonder “what if” we held him back a year…But he is truly doing well, his problems are more in my head than his. Shane and I will continue to work with him and he will do just what needs to be done!

He was so proud of himself this week and deserves all the praise he got and then some. He worked really hard with his class to put on a show for all of us parents and they did great. He worked extra hard to keep up and move ahead in his school work and is doing just that. As I said he is fabulous, but I’m a little prejudice…
