Do The Take Down Hustle…

December 29, 2008

So for as much as I love the hustle and bustle and cheer that Christmas brings to my life, once it’s over it is OVER! The moment the gifts are unwrapped, the cheer is had and the merrymeant is weaning, I begin my post Christmas “hustle”. I try to wait an “appropriate” space of time, you know, so I don’t seem like a total Grinch, and put the decorations away, sweep up the pine needles, dust and stow away the gifts. To be honest sometimes I wait until New Years, but that’s it, that is where I draw the line, and it has been as early as the day after before.

This year my hubby tried to convince me to leave it up and celebrate again when my parents visit…Which is not until January 15th! I can’t believe he thought he might actually win that argument. My tree and goodies have been out since Thanksgiving, I couldn’t stand it one minute longer. (Sorry Mom and Dad :( ).

So yes, what may have been a festive, wonderland mere days ago has been reduced to its usual state of blah county kitch decore. I did the hustle and with the kids help wrapped up three big bags of Goodwill/Amaw’s house donations. They really got into the donating spirit this year, which was good given the new rule in our house, something comes in/ something goes out (we are simply busting at the seems). We packed up the deocre, the ornaments and such and are ready to resume life as usual.

Ahhhhhh, I can breath once again!

Anyway, I still truly love the Christmas season and we were so blessed to see so many loved ones (and will be seeing even more soon!). We truly enjoyed celebrating, eating and remembering with them all. A big thank you to all of you who remembered my children and us on this holiday! I am working on thank you notes with the kids this week. (They aren’t as gung ho as I used to be about the thank you notes…Christmas day, maybe that’s where my Christmas hustle started…)I wasn’t so good at pictures but there are a few on flickr, check them out.

Well, back to work…

Another Week

December 14, 2008

We ran and ran and ran this week and actually accomplished some things. As of Saturday (thanks to Amaw) my Christmas shopping is DONE! Now nothing is wrapped and it’s all stashed away, and I’m totally broke, but it feels good to be done with that. I got my Christmas cards out and, Papaw Bob’s house ready for Christmas. Most exciting of all…

I got a JOB! Now I wasn’t really looking for a job, and I’m not sure how it happened but I am joining the ranks of the employed. I have been working from home on several projects for Shane’s boss for the past six months or so. Two of Shane’s coworkers are leaving as of Monday, and I will be doing some work from the office now. The plan as of now is to only work while the kids are in school, as we see how long these tasks are going to take me it may mean some more time. Right now the details are up in the air but it means more money for our family and more use of my mommy brain. I swear if you don’t have adult conversation for 5 years you find yourself talking to other “grown-ups” in baby talk, dumbed down sentences. Hopefully I am on my way to normalcy again. Wish me luck!

Be Ware…

December 9, 2008

So here comes my disclaimer, ’tis the holiday season and blogging time is going to be running short I can tell already. I will do my best to keep up but I think list making, running, baking and going is goign to take up most of my time.

I’ve got two schools to split my time between, Dylan’s next Mon. and Wed., Ella’s Fri., shopping, cooking, early second Christmas, birthday parties…and so much more…

I don’t know what it is about this family but just to make my life a little harder we also have 5 birthdays in December too. What were these people thinking…how inconsiderate to have their babies in December! Hahaha!

Anyway, I put a new quote up (pardon the language, I just thought it was funny) and I will try to at least post something over the next few weeks.

“Extra” Special

December 2, 2008

I awoke this morning nervous and anxious for the day ahead. I was all geared up for a repeat of six months ago..yes that’s right it was dentist time again for the kids. This is only there third trip to the dentist and the first two have involved more restraining, tears and screams than actual teeth cleaning. What I didn’t know though was that somewhere during the night someone snuck in my house and flicked a little switch in my children… I had been amping them up for the past two weeks, telling them how fun it was going to be and how they could tell their teachers about how good they were and so on and so forth. Boy whatever switch that guy flicked last night sure worked. They both hopped up in the big chair, opened up like pros, sat still and only coughed on the doctor a couple of times! I was so shocked I am still reeling. They both got thorough cleanings with actual tooth paste and floss and everything. They both suffered through the x-rays like champs (why can’t they make those little plastic things you put in your mouth smaller?).

When the day summed up they had stickers, prizes, tooth brushes, floss and issues…

I am happy to report that both of my children remain cavity free! Score one for mom (lucky!). However…Dylan needs sealants on his back molars, he is already getting staining and has such deep groves that the dentist feels he need these to prevent what she feels would be certain cavities. Ella is a whole other story…She is just so special…she felt the need to grow an extra tooth. This is apparently very common, what normally forms as a much smaller tooth(thinner and “bullet” shaped, often between the two front teeth)would come in with the rest of her permanent teeth and then be extracted and the gap fixed. But my daughter is SO special she decided to grow her tooth upside down. That’s right it is pointing strait up, with the root possibly blocking her two permanent front teeth from coming in. This will mean in the next few years she will have to have this extra special tooth surgically removed. This upside down extra tooth is apparently also fairly common and routine, nothing to be scared off.

Yeah right…tell that to the mom who just flashed back to having her wisdom teeth taken out…arrrg. This to shall pass…
