Productive Time

November 30, 2008

How was your Thanksgiving? We had a simple one stop holiday. That does not happen often for us, we usually have multiple stops to make but not this year. We went to Nana’s and had a big dinner for 32 people. We even met family I had never met before. It was nice not to have to run on to the next stop. We will do the other side of the family closer to Christmas.

11-30-08-tree-005Our week of vacation has been very productive. We have done Thanksgiving, moved tons of wood, got up leaves, cut down a tree, did some home repairs and even decorated for Christmas. I have never gotten Christmas decorations up this early. The two kiddos pushed me hard though, they both seem to get it this year and are very excited. We will see if our tree makes it to Christmas, guess I will actually have to remember to water it this year.  The kids helped with the tree, forcing my obsessive personality to let go and enjoy time with them. All the decorations did end up mostly in one spot but I have scattered a few since. I had fun with them, this is the first year they have really wanted to help and I enjoyed letting them help. We also helped Nana put up her tree, I will be going over to decorate it tomorrow, hers is a bit more involved being over 10 feet and all.

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.

Auntie Kori

November 23, 2008

So I didn’t know if I’d ever be an Aunt, but the wonderful family I married into blessed me with three “sisters.” They started as strangers and acquaintances and have grown to be my sisters. I sometimes wish we were closer and that they considered me as much of a sister as I consider them. However we are close and those lovely sisters have already provided me with my first nephew, making me an Auntie!

I got to spend all day Friday playing with my sweet nephew, Kayden. We played, shopped, ate, chased, and just had a grand ‘ol time. I have not spent enough time with Kayden in his first two years but my kids are to the point now where they are asking for Baby Kayden to come and play. I thought I was doing it for them but found myself enjoying it just as much as they did.

So weather I have more nephews and nieces one day or not I am so glad to be getting this time with Baby Kayden and my sisters. Thank you for letting me kidnap your kid Emmie. I’ll do it again soon.

Welcome to Nov. !

November 21, 2008

Well sickness ran rampant last week, Dylan was throw up sick, Ella gave us (actually just me) a scare with a racing pulse. We are all fine and healed now though. They did send Ella to the hospital for an EKG (simply because with her previous trouble and the length of time since her last one) but everything checked out A-Okay and we are to simply keep an extra close eye on her for the next little while. Dylan just had a stomach bug, welcome to November!

This week was School Spirit week for Dylan. He got to dress like a teacher one day, wear school colors and do lots of fun stuff. I even got to come read to the class on a special day. I have been doing all I can to support his class and now I will even be tutoring once a week. He earned his class a tiger paw (a special award) for his dressing up so much like the assistant principal on Monday.

Next week will  be super short just Monday and Tuesday at school and Dylan even gets out early on Tuesday. Shane is taking the week off! The kids are so excited, they seem really affected by his long hours right now and are truly glad he will be taking this time off. Even if we don’t get to go “away.” It’s our official “staycation!”

1st Report Card

November 10, 2008

Well our first report card came last week…He did super. In kindergarten they get 1, 2, or 3. 3 being the best, 1 the worst. He got two 1’s but they came with a disclaimer that NO one in the class did well on these. They were for things they just don’t cover this early in the year. Other than that he got 3’s galore! I am so proud of my little guy, and kicking myself in the rear for ever doubting his “kindergarten readiness.” He is sailing through and so happy about it all.

My only concern remains the sleeping he is doing. The fist quarter is over now, thus ends afternoon “rest time” at school. This also happened to hit right at the end of daylight savings time. Throwing my poor boy into a tailspin. He works solely off an internal clock, I try to never wake him (he is a grump when you wake him up). So for the past two weeks, what had been a 7 o’clock wake up has been a 6 o’clock wake up. It crept this morning to 6:15 but alas it makes for a struggle to keep him up until 6:30-7 (his normal bed time), which I have been doing since the time change to get him back on schedule. I still hesitate to admit he goes to bed at 7, people always look at me funny, it is odd right? 12 hours of sleep is not normal right…I don’t know, I try to do what is best for him but I don’t always know what that is…What happened to that darned instruction book they came with?

Long Lines and Free Stuff

November 4, 2008

Bad officials are elected by good citizens who do not vote.  ~George Jean Nathan

So did ya vote yet? I did! Being in a state that so wonderfully offers early “absentee” voting I actually voted last week. I still had to wait in line for over an hour but at least I didn’t have two kiddos hanging off my ankles at the time. Shane got up and went to the polls at 6:30 this morning to get in before work. He also had to wait about an hour but said that if he had gotten there at 7:30 he wouldn’t have had to wait at all. So with his vote cast we are officially a wash (I wont tell you who is Rep. and who the Dem. but I bet you can figure it out…) but at least we can say we participated in the democratic process. Now we can both complain about the next four years, knowing at least we voted.

Can you believe all the free stuff for voting this year? Coffee at Starbucks, doughnuts at Krispy Kreme, even Shane is getting in on the act and will be handing out free pizzas tonight to the dinner crowd at the local High Point polling places. So get out there earn your free stuff and cast your vote. No matter who your candidate is, just do your civic duty. If you don’t…I don’t want to hear one complaint for the next 4 years.

Check out my new cool poll and vote here too(I thought it was neat, I know I’m a dork!):

Halloween Fun

November 1, 2008

The fun is over but the sugar coma is long from over. Ella had fun trick-or-treating around school, I swear we must have walked a mile. After she had her fun, I dropped her at Nana’s and ran to Dylan’s school. He had a “special snack,” which is code for we aren’t allowed to have parties so we call it a snack. So before school was even out both of my children had had cup cakes, cookies, candy and cheese doodles and we hadn’t even ventured out yet. After school we got all dressed up and headed back to Nana’s for trick-or-treating. The only problem with Nana’s neighborhood is the extremely long driveways. By house six or seven both kids were tired and done with the whole thing, and it was only like 7:30. For them with there current 6:30 bed time that was late though. By 8:30 we were home and in bed. I’m sure the sugar rush will last for much longer though. I am thankful for the fact that Dylan could careless about candy, Ella on the other had wants all candy all the time!
