Three weeks of…

October 26, 2008

I know, I know, I know I am the naughtiest blogger in the world. I have been tied up with school things, furniture market and a massive ear infection.

On the ear infection: So far I have racked up 4 doctors visits, five prescriptions, a sky high bill and we are still not done with this thing yet. What started as a nagging little thing got so bad that at one point I considered the ER. Hopefully my visit with the ENT on Tue. will be the end of it. When I saw him last week, he thought I was finally on the mend but wanted to recheck anyway. I swear I never want to do that ear infection thing again, I feel so bad for those chronically ear infected babies now. I had never had an ear infection as an adult. Wow, was that the worst pain ever or what (and I’ve a two babies!)! Of course this could not have come at a better time of the year…

On the market: Shane and company doubled there efforts at the Furniture Market this year. Opening a new store in IHFC (International Home Furnishing Center) and an existing sore in Showplace. Thus requiring me to play the single mom role for the past three weeks. Late nights and early mornings caused for no time with kids. This seemed to hit Dylan especially hard this time. Never before had I heard so much “I want my Daddy!” or ”I wish Daddy were done.” Daddy has been working his bum off, and I was trying to help (help and make a bit of money too, for that sky high bill I talked about earlier), but that turned into a miserable failure. With no one to help watch the kids and stretching my neighborly/nana favors to the max with doctors appointments alone I was only able to help out one day. Oh well, I guess it was nice to see my hubby for at least one day in the last 20, even if we were working.

On school: Every one is getting ready for a big Halloween adventure. The kids have been keeping busy at school causing cranky attitude problems at home. Ella stayed home “sick” (she did actually have a fever) one day last week and now she says she is “sick in the mouth” every morning. Once you get her to school she is fine though. On Friday she will have a party and then trick or treat around the school. She has decided to be a pirate (final choice, I actually bought the costume so no going back now!)

Dylan is working hard and we got some good news this past week, he no longer needs his speech therapy. We will still work with him at home often to maintain the skills he has learned, but his teacher feels he is right on track and where he needs to be. Friday he went on his first ever field trip! They went to a local pumpkin patch, saw animals, went on a hay ride, ate a pick-nick lunch, and picked a pumpkin out to bring home. His favorite and most anticipated part of the trip was the bus ride. For weeks he has been telling me he doesn’t want me to pick him up he wants to be a “bus rider” and he finally got to ride that bus! All the parents missed out on the field trip as we were kindly asked not to come, in order to give our kids more independence. Friday he will have a “special snack” to celebrate Halloween (they are not allowed to have parties or dress up anymore). He has decided to be a cow boy again this year (he was that two years ago).

We carved pumpkins today, and are officiallyready for Halloween, finally. So that’s been my three weeks… hope you understand why I sort of dropped off the earth.

Kicking and Singing

October 10, 2008

So I could tell you all about our horrific morning that involved kicking, screaming, hollering, spanking and our first ever tardy to big boy school…But I decided to keep it positive and tell you how I had such fun with Dylan picking out books at the extremely over priced book fair at school, going to the Y to swim and singing a little song. We did have a bunch of fun hunting down Clifford books at the fair, and one about a fire truck too. This was fire safety week for both of my kids, so there was a lot of 911 talk, drop and roll, and fire hats a plenty. Dylan brought himself back from the brink this morning to end on a great note.  He has been singing this song to me every weekend since school started and he finally remembered all the verses last week and was eager to perform again today. I taped it for your enjoyment (sorry about the quality, and sideways nature, I turn it around half way through). If you can’t understand the words don’t worry it took me a few tries too and I’m his mother. This is apparently something they sing in class every “happy Friday”, it’s called “A Tooy Ta-Ta”.

Naughty Blogger- Birthday Blues

October 6, 2008

I have been supper bad, sorry ya’ll! Igot into super mom, over plan, over worry, over everything mode with this party. I ran around like a chicken with my head cut off and about gave myself an ulcer. Does this ever get any better? Maybe one day I will learn to relax…one day…

Dylan loved his birthday party. He ran around crazy, ate pizza and cake, opened presents and swam his little heart out! He had a blast! I even managed to relax and chat a bit with everyone. I had two complaints about the party and those were truly just my thing, it did not affect any one but be. The clean up time was super limited and I didn’t even make it to the pool until 15 minutes before we had to be out. Lord only knows what would have happened had I not had the help I did! And number two I have to rant about just a bit:

The term R.S.V.P. comes from the French expression “répondez s’il vous plaît”, meaning “please respond”. If R.S.V.P. is written on an invitation it means the invited guest must tell the host whether or not they plan to attend the party. It does not mean to respond only if you’re coming, and it does not mean respond only if you’re notcoming (the expression “regrets only” is reserved for that instance). It means the host needs a definite head count for the planned event, and needs it by the date specified on the invitation. Do people in the south just not get this? I invited every kid in Dylan’s class, I had one RSVP.  I had three others that told me after the date (like three days before the party) that they wanted to come. I told them all it was fine, adjusted my plans to accommodate them. They didn’t show!!! It really erked me, like is there no such thing as common courtesy any more!!

Regardless Dylan had a blast and that is what matters most. My big boy is 5 now, and I am feeling older by the second.

Being the naughty blogger that I am I did not take a single picture of the party. Amaw and Aunt Wendy did though, so I will post them as I get them. Thank you to all of you who helped me pull this one off. And from Dylan a big thank you for all the fun presents!
